Faculty members on joining the Institute are entitled to use the library facilities by default and are requested to fill the membership form. Institute ID card serves as a library card. Library also offers its membership to the Family Members (parents, spouse & children) of IITGN employees & students. Library also offers external memberships to facilitate institutional linkages & interactions for mutual benefit.
Library team invites every faculty member on their joining the institute, for a library visit where the senior library staff not only introduces the resources, services and library, but also gives a detailed tour of the library. This very first interaction gives library staff an opportunity to meet the new faculty and also understand their area of specialization and information needs.
This serves as a one-point access to search and locate the library collections in print.
Library has an ever growing collection of both print and digital resources available for the faculty to explore and make best use. The subject wise listing of e-resources subscribed by the library is also made available. If the required book is not part of the library collection, faculty members are requested to recommend the same.
E-Newspaper Collection (PressReader): Explore the collection of 7000+ premium digital newspapers and magazines for the daily dose of news and current affairs.
Library offers a wide range of services to meet the ongoing information needs of our faculty members.
● Course Readings: Library maintains in its website a list of course readings, mainly books recommended by respective instructors for each course taught in a semester. The same is updated frequently during the semester. Faculty members are requested to share the list of reading materials for inclusion in the list.
● Books recommendations: Faculty members are requested to actively participate in library collection development by recommending books and other reading materials.
● Integrating reading materials in LMS: Library is keen and will be happy to assist faculty members to integrate/provide links to library resources required for courses in their respective course modules.
● Compilation of bib/resource list: On demand, library team will be happy to compile list of resources on specific topics, courses, themes etc. and also assist students in assignment writing with required resources.
● OER/Open Textbooks: From time to time, library identifies and puts together a curated list of Open Educational Resources, Open Textbooks and other related materials which may be considered for teaching.
● Course Resource Guides: Like subject resource guides, library teams can put together comprehensive course resource guides covering all types of resources.
● Case studies and standards: The case studies required for teaching management related courses and standards & specifications required in engineering courses will be made available.
● Assisting students and faculty for textbooks: Library team is always willing to assist faculty as well as students in purchasing textbooks for their individual use.
● Instructor copies: Assisting in procuring instructor copies, solution manuals, supplementary materials etc. for their individual use.
● Audio Visual/Streaming Resources: Assisting in identifying and getting access to AV and streaming resources required for teaching.
Library offers number of services at every phase of the research work undertaken by faculty at the Institute which includes sharing project grant related information, providing access to research resources & tools, literature survey, managing references, assisting in publishing right journals, promoting, sharing and analyzing the impact of their research work, organizing workshops, consultations and others . Some of the major ones are,
● Off-campus access: Using this facility, faculty can continue to access library e-resources when they are away from the campus or travelling.
● Similarity Checking: Using Turnitin software, the library offers this service to check student’s assignments, manuscript of papers, research proposals, draft copy of the thesis and other such materials for similarity check. Kindly check with us in advance, you have a large number of assignments to be checked within a limited time.
● Writing Assistance (Grammarly): You may please create an account to use the premium version (education) of this software to assist you in your writing work. You may kindly encourage your students to use the same.
● Citation/Reference Management Software: Library will provide the required assistance and support in using reference management software like Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote and others to efficiently manage your references and research papers.
● Digital Repository: Provides access to the research publications (bibliographic information with abstract) authored IITGN community.
● Research Publications: A year wise list of research publications authored by IITGN Community with links and in most cases to full text of papers.
● Research Publication Data Analysis: Library on demand undertakes the work of retrieving publications data from the databases on a topic, discipline, institution, individuals etc. and the same analyzed and presented.
● Resource Guides: One point access to navigate through a curated collection of resources on a subject available through the library and on the Web.
● Article Alert Service: Provides assistance in setting up alerts in various database collections to stay updated.
● Provides assistance in creating and keeping updated the author IDs & faculty profiles on ORCiD, Publons, Kudos, IRINS, Google Scholar and other similar scholarly platforms.
Number of current alert services are provided from time to time, including the following ones.
● New Arrivals: A weekly list of new books added to library collection usually sent at the beginning of every week.
● IITGN Research Publications: A weekly list of research papers & other publications authored by IITGN faculty, students, researchers and others sent in the beginning of every week.
● Author of the Week: A well-known author whose books from the library collection would be of interest to wider audience (IITGN Community) is identified and information about his/works are shared on a weekly basis.
● Book of the Week: A popular title which will be of interest to a wider audience (IITGN Community) is identified and information about the same is shared on a weekly basis.
● Pathfinders (Bibliographies): A list of books on a wide variety topic available in library collection.
● Career Corner: A separate collection of interesting books to help choose your career path.
● Book Exchange: Leave a book and Take a Book: A facility through which you can share/donate your personal books with IITGN Community.
● Library Orientation and Workshops: Popularly known as “Know Your Library Resources & Services” and a series of workshops offered to help you make the best of the library.
● Donated Used Textbooks: Library collects used textbooks from our student community and in turn shares the same.
